Ste Genevieve County
Ste. Genevieve County was established in 1812 in the Territory of Missouri. The county seat, Ste. Genevieve, founded in the late 1740’s by French Canadians, became the first permanent European settlement in Missouri. It’s collection of French vertical log structures was recognized by the establishment of one of the newest National Historical Parks. The villages of Zell, Weingarten, and New Offenburg along the Iron Mountain Plank Road (Highway 32) were established during a 19th century German migration The County’s rich French and German cultural heritages are celebrated with festivals, events, food, tours, and music throughout the year.
